Every year, on January 1, the phrase “new year, new me” is thrown around like the confetti from the party New Year’s Eve. But what does that really mean? And how often do we really change? I believe we do not really change, we just enhance or detract from who we are.
There are 7 billion people on this Earth. And you are unlike any of them. You are so uniquely made that there is not one single way for someone to replicate you and what you have in your head and in your heart. You are 1 in 7 billion, so why would you want to change?
Every year, everyone has goals and drives that they wish to accomplish that year. Have you checked anything off your list? It is August, we are past the half way point, and most people have either slowed down in their progress to “change” or have given up altogether. So, I propose this: let us not change we are, but let us enhance into who we will become.
Become. By definition, become means “begin to be” (thank you Merriam-Webster). Let’s look at that again; begin to be. So, if we are enhancing who we will become, are we not enhancing the process of who we will begin to be? And if we are truly a unique, a 1 in 7 billion individuals, who was placed on this Earth to serve a purpose, why would we want to alter which we will be? We are unique in every way, shape and form, we cannot change what we are, but we can enhance, enrich and become who we are meant to be. Begin to be. Begin to be what? Are you beginning to be great? Are you beginning to be bold? Or are you beginning to be lazy? How about bitter? We are made uniquely but we can enhance or detract from who we are.
Every year, people wish to change or alter who they are. Were you one of those? We are 6 months in, if your goals and your dreams have gone untouched since January, let us look at them for what they are. Are your goals for you or are they some preconceived notion of who you think you should be based on what everyone else has told you? Who do you want to be? Who do you want to become?
Become. Begin to be. Begin to be amazing. Begin to be loving. Begin to be kind. Forgiving. Honorable.
Become you. Begin to be you because there is not one single person of the 7 billion out there that can do “you” better than you can.
